Hacky Hour broaches the 3rd Dimension..
SIH’s Sydney Hacky Hour achieved NextLevel™ last Wednesday with our first time at the Library’s incredible Thinkspace on Jane Foss Russel Plaza. Not only did we have the usual good company, serious research collaboration and quality snacks (mini cupcakes!), but the Library’s Pear Learning Advisors, as well as Sonya Corcoran from USYD TechLab were on hand to demonstrate Thinkspace’s amazing tech, including 3D printers, doodlers and etchers.
However, the biggest hit was probably the Oculus VR headsets, which were, in this humble blogger’s opinion, pretty incredible. Not the nauseating 3D anaglyph glasses you watched Avatar in, these current generation of headsets, sensors and controllers need to be experienced to be believed. No need to wait for next Hacky Hour, the Thinkspace is open Mon-Fri!
Thanks to @Sydney_Library and @UsydTechLAB for hosting last #HackyHour at their amazing #Thinkspace! I hope some attendees did actual work because.. I spent the session plummeting from a #VR skyscraper and #3Dprinting an articulating stingray!#SydInformatics #unlearn #SydHack pic.twitter.com/72e57rcu7H
